Need to transfer files from a dying HD in a laptop to the new one, will this work as a temp connection so I can use a driver cloner to copy everything over to the new drive?

It should, though I've personally owned one and it only worked once before the power brick decided to burn.(literally) So now I just buy some cheap USB external enclosure for HDD/SSD and it works just as good.
