CPU stress testing

Go to solution Solved by Fulgrim,

If it's maxing out at 66, then it'll be fine if you wanna keep on stress testing. But i personally find that a 20 minute Prime95 run with success, and some gaming is enough to determine if the OC is stable or not.

If you're not stress testing for stability for an overclock, then why do you want to run it exactly, OP?

I'm doing a stress test on my CPU using Prime95 (using Small FFTs option) and was wondering if it's okay to do it. I plan on running it for 24 hours. My processor is AMD Athlon x4 760K. So far it's running at a constant 66 degrees celsius. The recommended temp for it was below 74 degrees. Should I leave it overnight? What are some possible concerns?

It's okay, though i think it was linus that prime95 would randomly crash, or make the pc crash. He recommended Aida64 over prime95.

I heard that running a stress test for 24 hours will ensure that the CPU is working correctly and that it's not faulty or defective. So knowing that it will run without errors will give me a peace of mind. I was just wondering if the temperature is safe enough to run 24 hours because I worry about the temperature it's currently running at.

@i0wntehworld

Yeah, temps of 66 degrees are fine. I personally am comfortable at about 75 degrees under load while anything over 80 warrants a reduced power level, in my opinion. One friend of mine is comfortable so long as he's under 90 degrees, so it's really all a matter of opinion how high you're willing to go. Would not recommend anything close to 90 degrees.
