Add Ram

Go to solution Solved by Prastupok,

Try it. You may have to relax some timings manually if it doesn't work right away though. To do that write down the timings of your existing set (there's a little more to it than just the main three), remove that and install the other, write down the timings, set them to the slowest of each and install both.

If that fails you'll have to buy more of the same ram, but I doubt it will.

    So even if i put another brand 2x4GB with the same specs there is like a 50% to be all good as it would be a 4x4GB from a same brand ?

@Constantin

I'd stake money that it WILL work.

BUT it may not work as well if you bought all new of the same kind of RAM.

@ManWithBeard1990

I'm pretty sure if the speed & timings are all the same he shouldn't have problems. It just won't be optimal.

Hi all, i have the TeamGroup Dark 2x4GB 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24.

can i add a single ram 4GB or a 2x4GB of a different branch, but with the same specs 1600Mhz and 9-9-9-24

will it be ok, or i will have problems?

(My mobo is the Asus P8Z77-V LX and has 4 ram slots)

Thanks!

Technically you could run 2 completely different sets. It would run at the lower speed. But it is better to use all the same speed and timing, same brand and same model.

Yes but i bought the ram like 2 years ago, this brand have a ram that have the same specs as the one i have, but the design is different, will this be good ?

It will work, yes.

I still recommend having all matched pairs though.

It's just my recommendation, as even if everything is the same, manufacturing tolerances can change.

You can drop the new 2x4GB in no problem.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Why would it not be optimal? The same is the same right? Of course, there are more timing parameters than just the main three that are frequently mentioned and that could cause problems if those are different. So you'll have to take the slowest of each. Chances are good that the mobo will do this automatically though, I'd think.

If they retooled in a factory, small differences can be big ones in things like RAM.

Not guaranteed that happened, but I prefer going all new on things like RAM.
