So my Samsung T23A350 tv died on me recently and I couldn't find any repair parts online to fix it. And so I figured this would be a good time to upgrade my display.

I've been looking mostly at thin bezel monitors going from AOC, to Asus, and then narrowing down to 2 LG monitors both being ultrawide LG 25UM65-P and 25UM65-S. I'm choosing ultrawide, because I wanted something new as supposed to just going up in resolution like a 4k or 1440p monitor. I will be gaming and doing school work (mostly with CAD).

The 2 monitors mentioned earlier were both chosen because they both have all the ports as well enough ports for my devices besides my PC. I also like the aesthetics, thin bezels, and the dual link feature as well as the extra real estate. The only difference I found was that the 25UM65-P has less lag input of 5ms during gaming. I'm not quite sure what the huge difference that would do when I'm gaming regularly. I'm not heavy on competitive gaming, but I do want a great experience when gaming.

Do not go for the 25"ers. They are incredibly small...  it wil just be torture, but you wont admit it because you had spent money and it will turn into subconscious torture, which will manifest into cancer in your brain, if you plan to keep that monitor for years.

You are better off getting a CRT somewhere for cheap and you will have a more enjoyable gaming than on that 25"er.

21:9 IS amazing and godlike for gaming, but the minimum size for it is 29".

And if you can afford the cheapest 29", you can afford the 29" IPS freesync one from LG coming in 1 month. It will be just as much. THATS the one to go for and youll be good for 6-7 years, until OLED is dirt cheap.

Also, you can safely ignore the "5ms" ... it means precisely dick. Its just marketing bullshit. The real pixel response time for LCD is around 10ms at the very best. And best case for input lag is about 10ms too. But these are two different things.

FREESYNC + 21:9@29"at least is what will make your gaming smooth and super enjoyable.

Agreed!

If you must purchase a widescreen monitor, save your pennies and buy a real one.

Well one of the other reasons why I might go with a 25" ultrawide is because table-cabinet that I have is such that I am sitting pretty close to the monitor. My previous display, the samsung is 24", but it felt like it was bigger than 24" because of sitting up close to it. So I feel like I might not be able to appreciate having a 29" ultrawide or be able to experience because all that it offers as far as display size is concerned. And as mentioned, I'll be sitting up close to it due to the size of the table-cabinet that I have. But I'm still reviewing the both monitors along with 29" a various sites and forums. I'll probably also try to see if local retailers have it so that I can I see it in person.

Mark my words - if you get the 25" 21:9 - you will have a bad time.

Put freesync aside, do you think the lg 29" ultrawide monitors without freesync, which are the ones available now will get a price drop? And you mentioned within a month, is it guaranteed for a March release?

So I was going to pull trigger in buying the 29um65, but then my desk-cabinet isn't wide enough and also it's against the wall. I can't relocate it because of the all furniture within the room. It's 26 inches wide whereas the 29um65 is 27.7 inches wide, which is over and would be leaning against the wall. I'm heading to Frys tomorrow to see both monitors first-hand.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the LG 29UM65-P for 299.95 + free shipping and $27 on sales tax, so $326.95 total. But this is a REFURBISHED unit with a 90 days MANUFACTURER WARRANTY and the seller has a 93% rating. Do you guys think I should pull the trigger on this one, or wait for the release of LG's freesync ultrawide monitors with the hopes that the previous ultrawides (29UM65, 34UM95, etc.) will get a more than generous discount?
