Graphics card GTS 250. Motherboard MSI z97 sli plus.

Graphics card requires spdif input for hdmi audio. Motherboard has no spdif output connection. Motherboard has hdmi audio built in - works fine. But can't resize desktop to fit my screen through motherboard hdmi.(Nvidia's control panel makes this a snap).

If anyone knows of a video card that can do hdmi audio w/o needing spdif connection, or knows of a workaround, or a solution, let me know. I think I heard that amd's GPUs do it straight thru the pcie connection, can anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty much all modern GPUs, even the very low end ones, have HDMI audio decoder straight on the card that communicates over PCIe. However from my experience AMD does seem to implement HDMI audio better.

If you're running a GTS 250, shouldn't be too hard to find something newer & better for pretty cheap. One my nephews had the same issue with his 250 when he got a 32" TV to use as his monitor.

Pretty sure I found a cable on Newegg or Amazon that was only $2 specifically for this, but I had to do a funky search to find it. It was simply 2 wires, using the same header type as your HDD LED from the front panel. You could probably rig one yourself, as long as you know which jumper to connect to on the motherboard.

We never did get his, he just used headphones instead from the onboard audio.
