Can anyone recommend a good harddriver tester?

I'm interested in reading and writing speed.

The goal is to see how close in performence WD AV are to WD Black, considering there is a $50 price difference.

Hey Chiobe,

There should be differences between the speeds of these two drives as WD Black is a performance drive while WD AV is a surveillance-class drive. Do have in mind that WD AV is optimized to have higher sequential read/write speeds which is preferable in video recording/streaming while WD Black has optimized random read/write speeds which is better for conventional everyday usage.
you can check the drives' spreadsheets to see their speeds according to their storage sizes:

I was thinking about using AV for storrage and Black for Rendering, but it seems the other way might be better.

Just a shame my Black is just 1TB, while my AV is 4TB.

You could still render on the WD AV and keep the ready files there (the ones that you are working with) and keep everything else on the WD Black. Or simply create a partition on the desired drive that is dedicated to rendering and use the rest of the storage space for its capacity.
