Gaming PC Help

Go to solution Solved by Courtex,

And i found some parts thats fits my price range pretty well ill tell you them and it would be nice if you could tell me

1.will they fit in to a cooler master xm

2.is there any better parts that them i should choise

1.corsair GS700

2.intel i5 3570k

3.GEforce Gtx 660 Ti power edition

4.Z77A-G45 msi

5.2x4 GB corsair vengeance DDR3

6.corsair sp120 quite edition

7.corsair h100i

8.intel ssd 335 series 180Gb

9.seagate barracuda 3tb drive

thanks again

I thinking of making my first PC but i am a little concerned about putting it together and buying the pieces so instead of doing a whole tone of research about what hardware will work with what i decided to look up one of Linus`s old video and found this (

) obviously i would love to have the whole computer he put together but that was an extreme build and way out of my budget anyway i have a lot of questions about this ill try to keep it as simple as possible

1.if i were to go for these PC parts (mentioned in the video above) Would it be worth going for the next model up from the cooler master haf xm 922 and going fot the cooler master haf 942 witch is a full tower instead of a mid or would it just be unnecessary and the only reason you would be getting it is more space?

2.When i do build my PC i would like to be able to follow his vid step by step but his Pc build is a little to much for me and way to expensive i was thinking of a toned down version of what he got lets say insted of what he got i would go with

1 western digital 2 tb drive instead of 4 western digital 3 tb drives

1 neutron gtx ssd instead of 2

1 gtx670 instead of 2

4 sticks of 2 gb a total of 8 gm of ram instead of 4 sticks of 4 a total of 16

Motherboard Not sure of but i would like the same style and is a bit pricey $$

Sound card Not sure if its necessary for me

Corsair H100  liquid cooling system Not sure if i will be overclocking because i have herd it shortens the life of the CPU or what ever you are overclocking and it is all so more risky

If anyone could help me out i would be very grateful as i am a novice when it comes to computer building and PC hardware Thanks :)

First of all, that video is ANCIENT. Times have changed since then.

You're starting out with computers, so you don't need an extreme-series processor unless you actually need the horsepower. If you're gaming or even doing light video editing, an i5-4690K will be just fine.

Overclocking a CPU doesn't hurt your CPU nearly as much as it used to. They're a lot tougher now, you can shove a lot more power through them. Of course, your CPU will wear out over time for running at high speeds for a while, but if you keep it cool and don't let it overheat, it will last a really long time even at insane speeds, we're talking 5 years and up. your water cooler will do that just fine. The 4690K will go to 4.7GHz, 4.8GHz in some cases. I'm running a 2600K at 4.7GHz, and there have been no issues.

Also, overclocking is much, much simpler than it used to be. CPUs have so many failsafes built into them that you have to actually try to fry one in order to fry it. As long as you do it right, you'll have no problems. We can help you there.

Go with a GTX 970, just for a nice sweet-spot gaming experience. You'll be able to add another one if you want more power later.

Motherboards are mattering less and less these days. Just get a good $100 Z97 motherboard, make sure it's from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or ASRock and you'll be fine.

for a gaming rig like this, you want a good power supply. Never skimp on your power supply. This is a high-power system, so you'll want one that's rated for 80+ Gold. It doesn't need to be overkill, for something like this a 500W power supply will do just fine. Make sure it's from a reputable brand like Seasonic, Antec, Corsair or Cooler Master. There are others, but those are the big players.

Sound cards do not matter anymore. Onboard sound is just as good. The only application for a sound card is if you have headphones with high impedance. Most don't.

8GB of RAM will do fine. All the crap RAM companies died out years ago. Pick a set of 1600MHz RAM and have at it.

SSDs have exploded since Linus made that video. Grab whatever SSD you fancy, except the Kingston V300. STAY AWAY FROM THE V300. Get yourself a decent 128GB or 256GB SSD from Corsair, Crucial, OCZ or Adata and you're gold.

As for mass storage, grab a couple of WD hard drives that you like and throw them in your PC.

Give us a budget and we'll help you out. in a more specific way, that is.

and also i took into account about what you said about the vid being outdated so i looked for another one because i would like to use the vid as a step by step guide so i found this that is perfect it fits my budget and the vid is only one year old all i need to know now is if those parts mentioned in the vid will fit in to a cooler master haf xm.

WOW! 1500$ is quite a lot. Tell me a few things, and I'll come up with a nice build for you:

  1. 1500 Dollars. US, CA or AUS?
  2. Do you need a Windows copy?
  3. Do you need mouse/keyboard?
  4. What monitor you currently have?
  5. Main purpose of the build. Gaming, video rendering, data center,, just name it!
  6. Do you have any preference for a colored build theme? Or would you like a case without a side panel window?

1.AUS

2.I got widows covered

3.I got keyboard and mouse covered

4.I currently have a 60cm across 33cm down monitor

5.gaming

6.well because i'm going with the cooler master xm case it doesn't have a clear side panel so it doesn't matter if i have a cool theme if no one will see it also i'm going more towards performance rather than looks.4-HAF-XM.jpg
