What do you want? Gaming performance?

There are cheaper options than a 4790k + mainboard. The 760 isn't the best GPU but price/performance wise you might be better off with just adding a second one.

Yeah general 1090P gaming performance. The 760 was a gift so I can't complain there. I'm a budget gamer. But I have $1300 in my bank right now from tax returns and I want to dump into it really good hardware that'll last me awhile.

Whats a better option then the i7-4790k?

look for Z77 boards on ebay

your 2500K is still a good CPU

no point upgradeing to the Haswell when Broadwell Desktops are coming really soon

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Have a look at Linus' budget build http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/281756-ultimate-value-gaming-build-guide/

Instead of the 260x you can also go for a 750Ti if you prefer Nvidia

I was honestly thinking about picking up a e2-1230v2, sounds like a hell of a deal for what it is.

depends on the deal. also mind you they are not unlocked so overclocking (more) is limited.

I just need more CPU power. My i5 isn't really cutting it. Or unless it's my GPU that's not cutting it. For odd reasons. I'm barely hitting 60 fps with only medium settings on almost every game I play. With the star child exception of TombRaider. idk why. But that game plays on ultra no problem. 90+ fps. Which is why i'm trying to figure out if I should upgrade cpu or gpu. Just don't know which to upgrade first.
