This is my first build. Although I posted before I've made significant changes to lower the costs, as well as upgrading some parts (in some cases to better parts with cheaper prices)

Current Build

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/DeathRtH/saved/1R3S

I chose

750W PSU: in case i decide to upgrade.

Azza Genesis 9000: For a large case size, with a large amount of stock fans.

HDD's: I basicly went with the cheapest i could find that had good reviews.

GPU: i went with the 780 GPU since, as far as i can tell its the best GPU short of getting a titan.

Xeon Processor from what i can tell, nearly the same as an i7 without an integrated GPU. but with an Nvidia 780 GPU i shouldnt need any integrated Gpu anyways.

Patriot Viper 3: Someone posted this on my previous post, not only was it cheaper than the RAM i had in my build before but it was faster.

Windows 7 Home Premium. From what I've heard windows 8 is not for gamers so I went with the Cheapest W7 i could find.

MOBO: this is the motherboard that ive had recommended to me the most.

Uses for PC, Mostly gaming but i do plan on getting into gave development, and would need to run programs for it, 3-D Modeling ETC.

The main questions I have, Price reduction and cases, I want to stay in Full tower (i like the ability to add extra fans/upgrade current onesand I like the looks of a full tower). but any help on MOBO is appreciated. Also, im not sure if i should go with W7 Home premium. or go with Professional.

Professional is more but has alot more compatability (as well as a higher cap on RAM incase id ever need to upgrade).

I also plan on running a 1920 x 1080 Display if that matters.

Windows 8 is for gamers considering you get like 6-10+ more frames and my question is are you really going to get into game development? I see a lot of posts for people wanting to make builds and everyone says "I am going to be doing recording and video rendering" and they don't, because YouTube is a big thing. Do you really think you are going to do that? Because game development is a large step, are you taking any classes? Do you know how to program anything? Because if the answer is no and you know in your heart you won't than be true to yourself and just get a gaming/all purpose rig. You will be a lot happier.

Yes i do plan on going into game development, currently researching the classes ill be needing, also plan on doing stuff on youtube, already have a few videos but because my rigs so old they are terrible quality. I did do some Mods for Oblivion and Fallout 3, and plan to do alot of skyrim stuff when i get this rig. (as well as minecraft but that doesnt realy matter for this) and any other games i can find worth modding. as for Windows 8, does it have many compatability issues like Vista and Windows 7 had? i know alot of those were fixed but i play ALOT of MMO's (Vindictus,Perfect World among others) and compatability would be a big worry for me.

Alright then it sounds good. I don't think it does. I know it has issues with games thar are 10+ years old though

Just changed the GPU in that build to

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130918&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

seems nobody has the 780 Superclocked in stock, this is the same price and seems better.

Seems from what people are saying theres no major difference between W7 and W8 performance so ill have to look up videos on the interface, been using the classic interface for about 12 years so thats where id be worried most of all.

Ram prices constantly change. Right now, this is cheaper, has lower heatsinks (less cooler height problems), and has the same performance: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-memory-ax3u1600gw8g92g

Just look at the memory at the top here to determine the cheapest ram sticks right when you purchase your parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#sort=a8&qq=1&s=301600,301866&z=16384&c=90&n=2

As for the motherboard, you don't need such an expensive one. Mobos of that caliber often have better power delivery for better overclocking which is irrelevant since you won't be doing that with the xeon.

This will do just fine: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-b75ag43

If you plan to sli, get this instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-p8z77vlk

You should get a bigger ssd. 60gigs fills up pretty quickly. This ssd has great performance and is relatively cheap right now: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-internal-hard-drive-sv300s37a120g

Thanks im looking at that stuff now

SSD tho, i heard the best brands are Samsung and OCZ, has that changed?

One of the best ssds around is the samsung 840. There are more high tiered ssds now and the difference of speed is hard to tell in real life between them.

The story is different if you compare a higher tiered and a lower tiered ssd.

Looks are purely subjective. I could suggest the NZXT Phantom: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-phan001wt

It also happens to be the case I use.

If I were you, I would definitely change the OS from Win7 to Win8, first of all, you can get Win 8 for $89/$130(pro) - $90-$40 cheaper, and future proof, you just get a normal start menu, there are A LOT of options(free and paid) which improves the use, and then I'd invest in something or just save money for a bigger upgrade, like a 27" 1440p monitor - good for editing photo/video with better color reproduction and programming/modeling :D

There's a usb 3.0, usb 2.0, esata, mic, and headphone port/jack at the top.

Not sure about W8 ive heard alot of mixed stuff about it, as for 1440P monitors, about how much do those run? i was looking at this for a monitor, mainly for how adjustable it is

i just double checked on the page, and watched the video

  • 1 x HD Audio/Mic, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x eSATA

sadly no USB 3.0, im looking up the other phantoms now

I know it says 2x usb 2.0 but I ordered it from Newegg which says the same thing. It comes with a usb 3.0 port at the top and a usb 3.0 header as well.

Looking at included fans, vs optional, i want to have as many fans as possible

it seems to have open slots for a 200/230MM fan a 140MM fan and another 200MM fan, what fans would be recommended?

im not to worried about noise, i use Turtle Beach X12's so i dont hear alot of it, but if quieter fans arent to big of a difference id go with those

There's not much point to adding more fans. The fans that come with the case are quite adequate.
