Raspberry Pi as cloud storage

I would like to use my Raspberry Pi as cloud storage.

I currently just installed Raspian as OS but I'm not sure how to proceed.

I've found a few guides but this is the first time I'm using Linux, so I've no idea what the commands do etc.

Seems like most people recommend installing Owncloud which can then be configured as desired.

Also I don't have access to the router settings as the owner just gave me the password for the wifi, will this still allow me to create the cloud server?

Thanks!

You don't need router settings. Also, don't do it over wifi please.

Good to know. Unfortunately I don't have access to the router so I have to do it through wifi and anyway I'm not going to actually use it as cloud storage, it's only as a test for a project.

You can do the whole thing on an SD card
