Hello everyone, I'm making a redesign of my sportsclub website. I would like to ask you guys what you think of the design. There are some words in Dutch, but it shouldn't effect your experience.

You can visit the website with the following URL: http://rubenvermeulen.be/p/fleeShuttleRedesign/

Thanks

snip

its looking good, i noticed 2 things only:

- on the right side "view the latest newsletter" it leads to a page that is broken or maybe u didnt finish it yet.

-in the bottom part of the page, under navigation -> club info, remove those sub topics because they make the bottom part of the page a little bit bigger than it should be "the dark gray footer part".

other than that its fine :D

Thanks for your comment. I removed the newsletter directory temporary. That's why it does not work. I'm going to try to remove the subs and see how it looks.

Sorry if my comments offend you in advance, ignore them if you wish, just my opinion (and hi "neighbor" )

- If you want to make a infoboard it should be automatically updated from the google calendar, not like this.

-Weird placement of Gallery and FAQ. FAQ should be in the footer in my opinion, and gallery shouldn't be hidden away at all.

- Did you view the page in a smaller window? Navigation stays one massive scroll list (not responsive)  The 3 fields on the right seem to be just adding below the entire news section, which makes the page too long.

- Speaking of the news section, I'm aware that you might not be posting more than 3-4 news posts in an entire month. But still, it might be faster change the website so that only 1 news article is shown, especially on mobile. Maybe make it responsive with a "read more" control on it.

- I wonder if it's that useful to load google maps map on mobile. There is a possibility they use it, on the other hand, its unnecessary .

- Why is there "nieuws-17/08/2014" below every article. Why? Are there gonna be more categories other than news? if yes, are you gonna make them sort on category?

- Why would you show both an infoboard and a calendar on 1 page? seems overdone. You could just as well add the calendar to a seperate page, especially since you can't see in 1 quick look when there is gonna be anything, because there isn't enough space to show even 1 name of an event.

- Leave the sponsors on the top right where they are now on the live website instead of in the header.

-FAQ is a .php link, the rest isn't. make up your mind.

-Rethink the whole navigation. "Jeugd" and "Recreanten" are almost empty on the live website, so I expect them to be the same on the new website you have made here. "Lid worden" is small, but to make a rational decision to do that you would constantly have to switch to "Club info". Lidgeld/Nuttige documenten and "benodigdheden" belongs in a tab with "lid worden".  Club info because of that is huge. And finally I don't have a clue what you are gonna put in "speelmomenten", the days that there are gonna be some games? So that you can now find whether there could be game on 3 f*kin places on the same page?

First of all thank you for the feedback.

- The infoboard is automatically updated but not yet from the Google Calendar. I'm still exploring things. But you are right, doing things twice isn't the way too go.

- The FAQ is also listed in the footer, I just placed it aswell in the header. The Gallery is in my opinion not the most important thing of the website that's why I placed in the header and footer. Not in the main navigation, but I agree it deserves a little more attention.

- Yes I did view the page on a smartphone. I'm just following the idea of making things as simple as they can be but not simpler by removing fields.

- I'm going to give the "read more" a try, thanks for the tip. I'm also going to limit the number of newsitems to 3, instead of 5.

- I find the Google Maps useful, you don't have to use it. It's just a visual representation of the location.

- The "nieuws" below every article will not be a category for now. It could be in the future, but for now I can maybe change it to "posted on".

- That's a good point you make, I can make a link at the bottom of the infoboard with a link to the calendar page.

- I personally prefer them on top. It fills the empty space in the header and this way I can show more information before the user starts scrolling. Ofcourse I don't want too much information.

- I'm making my own CMS for fun and I still haven't figured out everything. Without ".php" the page does not function correctly. I'm aware of this.

- I've tried several things, I'm thinking I could create a "categories" or something and have a dropdown wiith "jeugd", "recreanten" and "competitie". That way I can also add gallery to the navigation.

Thanks again for the feedback. In a few days I will gather with the management and I will see what they expect from the structure in general.

My observations:

  1. Reduce the size of the headings in the sidebar. Right now they pull the eye away from the main headings in the content which breaks the flow of the eye over the page.
  2. Get the site sponsors out of the header. As with the sidebar heading size, this robs the header of a focal point and makes it look busy and confused. Failing that, they should be MUCH smaller. Also, the green of one of the logos doesn't go well with the overall color-scheme since that color appears nowhere else.
  3. Your navigation menu is bugged, as so often happens. If I resize the page down and show/hide the main menu, it is still hidden upon increasing the page size. This is not hard to fix and is a potential issue given the range of device resolutions these days.

- I personally prefer them on top. It fills the empty space in the header and this way I can show more information before the user starts scrolling. Ofcourse I don't want too much information.

Empty space is underrated in design. You don't want to pack crap into every square inch of a page, it makes things cluttered and unprofessional-looking.
