Posted February 1, 2015 So, I recently purchased this strip of RGB Lights. Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tingkam%C2%AE-Waterproof-5050RGB-Lighting-lighting/dp/B00H7T7XA2/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422811345&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=TingkamRGB+Light+strip I would like to have them in my rig. My motherboard is the Asus Maximus VII Ranger. To my knowledge the only way to get them on is to use the wall adapter with the white box thing then to the strip. The connectors on the strip are female and they look like 'mini molex?' Is there a way to plug these into my rig and still have RGB capabilities? Here is the RGB strip I bought http://imgur.com/a/VdnC6 Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/302389-rgb-light-strip/ Share on other sites
 Posted February 1, 2015 Nope. The white box is the RGB Controller. I've seen people mount the box in a 3.5" bay and instead of plugging it into their wall connect it to the PSU via some soldering and molex Main Rig: -FX8150 -32gb Kingston HyperX BLUE -120gb Kingston HyperX SSD -1TB WD Black -ASUS R9 270 DCUII OC -Corsair 300r -Full specs on Profile Other Devices: -One Plus One 64gb Sandstone Black -Canon T5 -Moto G -Pebble Smartwatch -Nintendo 2DS -G27 Racing Wheel #PlugYourStuff - 720penis - 1080penis - #KilledMyWife - #LinusButtPlug - #HashtagsAreALifestyle - CAR BOUGHT: 2010 Corolla Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/302389-rgb-light-strip/#findComment-4108700 Share on other sites
 Posted February 1, 2015 The NZXT HUE uses the same kind of RGB LEDs with the same kind of connector (allthough i think it is a male connector on the LED). So if you can pick up a 2nd hand NZXT HUE you could use that to controll the LEDs. Or of course do somer soldering witchcraft which is cheaper. who cares... The only connections that are spare on my PSU are Molex ones You need an adapter like this to connect to your PSU or re-wire it yourself using an old 2.1mm jack. As for the LED to the controller (white box) you connect those 4 pins on the LED's to the controller. Posted February 2, 2015 It is actually pretty easy to rewire. I'm an idiot and I have rewired fans to external power supply cords several different times. However, if you don't have the tools to do it or a book to get basics from, probably not the best idea. I would, if I were you, just get the adapter and be done with it. | The United Empire of Earth Wants You | The Stormborn (ongoing build; 90% done) | Skyrim Mods Recommendations | LTT Blue Forum Theme! | Learning Russian! As @Albatross said it's fairly easy to wire it yourself as long as you have a 2.1mm jack and a molex you can basically just cut off the other end of the molex and rewire it yourself by soldering or twist together and insulating. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Molex-Power-Adapter-SATAPOWADAP/dp/B00009YFTI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422852663&sr=8-2&keywords=molex&pebp=1422852684801&peasin=B00009YFTI Updated Modding FAQ Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/302389-rgb-light-strip/#findComment-4114589 Share on other sites
