I have a raid1 array on an intel chipset with two 2tb drives and i would love to delete this array and still have all the data on one drive.
Is this even remotely possible? In a raid 1 array the drives are exact copy's of eachother, but if i split them and delete the array in my bios, will it be able to boot?
Is there a workaround, or do i need to buy an extra drive to copy all my data first :(

Since RAID 1 is a complete mirror, you should be able to use the drive by itself.

But, to make sure, I would suggest you unplug one of the drives (with the array still setup) and boot the system. You might get a warning about the array bring in a degraded state, but if it boots then you should be fine.

Hey N4dez,

Do you have that RAID1 array as your boot drive?
You should be able to use either of the drive independently since RAID1 creates a mirror image.
If you want to be on the safe side, you can get one of the drives out of the array, format it, and then clone the other drive on it and then format the other one, thus having a complete copy of the drive outside of the RAID in case something happens and you cannot use the drive if it's not in the array.
