Cpu+Mobo or Gpu? Please help

Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

Okay, if my lynnfield still can keep up, i need to upgrade my cooler fan too..

Is Cooler Master HYPER 212X TURBO enough?

Could you give me a website how to over clock my CPU?

i'm still learning btw, sorry for bothering you.

Thank You.

Go with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or pro (whichever is cheaper).

First, i'm sorry if my english is bad..

I have an 5 y/o PC, it's using :

Intel Core i7-860 lynnfield 2.8GHz

ASUS P7P55D mobo

GTX 285 GPU

16Gb DDR3 ram

2TB HDD

i'm planning to upgrade my system one by one but i'm a bit confused witch part i need to upgrade first.

Do i need to upgrade my CPU+MOBO first (i5 4690k+MSI Z97 Gaming 7) or my GPU (GTX 970) ?

I'm a new guy around here and still learning about computer.

(note: my budget only ready for CPU+MOBO or single GPU)

Thx

Get a new gpu (assuming you're gaming).

If you overclock your current cpu, you won't bottlneck too badly in most games (you'll be able to push 60fps in most games).

P.s. you can also get a significantly cheaper motherboard (for future reference) -- something like an MSI z97 G55 SLI, MSI Z97s SLI Plus, MSI Z97 Gaming 5, or Gigabyte Z97x SLI, Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 3, or Asus Z97-A. The motherboard has very little impact on performance -- so all you need to do is get a board with the correct chipset (z97 for overclocking) and then make sure the board has SLI/XFIRE support (depending on which you want).

I'd probably upgrade the GPU first, its a DX10 card so if you're gaming you won't be able to play the lastest games. If you could care less then probably upgrade the board+cpu
