specs -

i7 2600k running at 4.4 ghz

r9 270x XFX 2gb

8 gb Gskill ripjaws ram

asrock z77 extreme 3 mobo

1 tb hard drive

corsair cx500 watt psu

The problem is constant frame drops in games. I am running the latest AMD drivers. But however I can't get the same performance as other people are getting with their r9 270x's For example COD Advanced Warfare can't be maxed out for me without constant frame drops creating a very un-playable experience, while I see others maxing the game out excluding some things and having no issues. Is there anything in my system that could be causing it? I run 3 monitors but only game on one 1080p TV.

Note- I have had these issues even before I overclocked my processor, I just recently overclocked it

How is your cooling set up?

Cooling isn't really an issue for me. My i7 2600k on idle overclocked is about 30c and tops out at 55c. My gpu seems to top out around 60-70c

make sure you have enough disk space so games can occupy temporary data

how much disc space do I need? I currently have about 320gb left on my hard drive

Well, I would say it is the R9 270X... but it is just a guess.  It is a good mid-range card, but it is not godly... every card has it's limits.  When playing Tombraider on my R9 280, I have to turn things like shadow quality and AA down in order to have over 60 fps at all times.  You might be expecting too much from your GPU.  Advanced Warfare is a new title,  you should not be able to max it.

I understand that fact, it isnt a godly gpu by any means but everyone else I have seen do gameplay on it is getting better settings/framerates in games and I'm debating on if its something hardware related for me or not.

you're ok if your hard disk is not filled more than 70%, even general file explorer and internet browsing lags in this sort of situation.

I cleared out some of my unplayed games just to be safe.

Did you try quiting all the bs background programs too? I know your cpu is far superior than what I am used to but I always close down all background processes that I don't need, even anti virus

^^ There is no truth to this whatsoever.

OP. I would uninstall your drivers with a driver cleaner utility of some sort and reinstall. Also be sure your GPU temps are not being exceeded as it will likely throttle down if it is. That would be my first steps.

I tried that and it seemed to have some sort of an effect. Not massive however. but one thing I did notice is in Advanced warfare's settings I am showing to have only 1.4 gb of vram when I have a 2gb card? could this be an issue

Stole this from the googles. Worth a try:

1. Close AW and go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty Advanced Warfare\players2

2. Open config_mp.cfg with notepad press ctrl+f and serch for memory

3. should say

seta r_videoMemoryScale "0.85"

change this to

seta r_videoMemoryScale "1"

4. SAVE AND RESTART
