Quote from some PS3 fansite: "4:45 The firmware update for the PlayStation 3 this week made for big splash. Many owners could no longer use after updating to the new version of the console. These were primarily those with a self-installed hard drive (HD). Since Sony has relatively quickly withdrawn the update, apparently only a small number of consoles were "out of service" is set.

As Sony is telling you could track down the problem and it will roll out a new firmware update in the coming week (27 June 2013). All the PS3 can not use now should be able to install the update via the service menu. Sony apologizes for the inconvenience themselves."

It seems like it's a fix, so i guess it's safe?
