I'm looking at my new build and am going to get an SSD for OS and some of my frequently played games.  I'm coming from a WD Caviar Black drive in my current rig, so I'm sure any SSD will be a huge improvement, but I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck in this build for this SSD.

I'm looking for a 240gb+ drive that is preferably black or red (it's going in an H440 and will be visible) and am looking to spend around $100ish US.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.  I've heard the Crucial mx100 is a good one, as is the ADATA SP900 as well.

The Crucial MX100 is a good value option, but it's not really in the colours you want.

The A-Data Premier Pro SP600 is Black and good value as well. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-internal-hard-drive-asp600s3256gmc

EDIT: There's also Sandisk's Ultra Plus which is Black and red http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sdssdhp256gg25

This is the cheapest one per capacity... but the deal ends on February 2nd

I personally think its about price for dollar not max speed, because ssds are fast anyways!

I recommend going for the m550 for faster speeds at around the same price for the mx100 http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-256GB-adapter-Internal-CT256M550SSD1/dp/B00IRRDHUI

You could plastidip the outside in red if you're comfortable with a bit of diy.

Edit:The only red ssd I can think of is the corsair force series gs which is more expensive.

Just a bit more than I'd like to spend on the drive atm.

I've actually considered doing this exact thing, I've never used plastidip personally, I suppose it's no different than just ordinary spray paint for using this though?  Just use painter's tape to cover the connectors and go to town?

SNIP

I would plug in some sacrificial cables or very carefully cover the connectors with tape and apply the spray in layers until it's fully covered to avoid over spray. If you don't mind voiding the warranty, they best way would be to take the drive a part and just paint the housing. But run a few tests and bench marks before doing this just in case it's a DOA.
