I've considering upgrading my older A8-6500 CPU to a newer FM2 socket chip. I've considered both the quadcore Athlons, or running my R7 260x in CrossFire or Kaveri or whatever it's called when you run the APU and a dedicated graphics card together. Would it be beneficial to run the integrated APU on the A10 chips or should I just skip this and buy an Athlon? Keep in mind my PC is a value oriented PC, and I want to try to get the most possible performance out of "low end" performing parts.

If you have an FM2 board it will not work with FM2+ CPUs. You need an FM2+ motherboard to use an FM2+ CPU. Since the A8 is already a quad core of the last generation that can be used on FM2 boards the upgrade improvement will be very little. You would gain only 300 MHz + silicon lottery overclocking above what you have now by switching to a Athlon 760k. Dual graphics is worse than what you are currently using as well. The best the A10 7850k can crossfire with is an R7 250. An A10 7850k + R7 250 is worse than the R7 260x. Benchmarks below.

If you have a dedicated GPU, the best option (and therefore the only option) is the X4 860k. An APU is silly if you have an R7 260x.

If you take the bills in your hand anyways, then I would suggest to upgrade to Haswell; H81 mobo and a i5-4460 or similar.

It'll cost you about 300$, but it's a real improvement and lasts you at least for 2 years, and you'll be able to upgrade to an i7 later.

There's nothing on the FM2 platform that would warrant the cost of upgrading from what you have. Stick it out and save up for a real upgrade to an i3/i5 and H97 (perhaps when Broadwell releases) since there's not gonna be anything on FM2/FM2+ worth upgrading to in the future from any current chip on it.

The Athlon 860K is somewhat better (lower frame dips) but you'd need an FM2+ board for it... so if you're upgrading the board, you might as well do it for a platform with some serious upgrade options for the future.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

OP, Get an unlocked APU or Athlon.. (that is of course compaitle with your mobo)

You called? (look in profile/sig)

I don't like Intel, as I have used it MANY times. I have received quite a few defective processors, and I just trust AMD a lot more than Intel. Sorry if this makes you want to shove a plastic fork in my throat, it's just what I want. And I AM using an FM2+ motherboard. A88XM-GAMING by MSi.
