Hi Peeps,

I need some help, im at work and i have a colleague with a Microsoft Surface Pro (1st Gen) and we don't have DHCP on our VLAN so we have to have static IP's

Every time i set the static IP into the IPv4 box it looks fine, press ok, then go back into the IPv4 box and its gone.....no IP conflict message comes up and i have checked that no one else has that IP

Now for the weird part, if i open a command prompt on his Surface and do an 'ipconfig /all' it shows all of the IP settings just as i set them, and he can browse our file shares etc

Now, after about an hour his network will stop working and the Surface will pick up a 169.x.x.x IP address (this is due to no DHCP server) and then we loop, i set the IP statically, wont appear in the box, appears in command prompt for about an hour and boom, it will go again :(

I have also tried using different docking stations and USB to Ethernet, and even rebuild the Surface back to defaults, still broken :(

Any ideas?

Any help will be much appreciated as im lost with this

THANKS!

Jamie

Is his account an admin account? If not, you may want to log into an admin account, make the change, then restart the computer.

Is this an Active or Open Directory it's attached to?

Have you checked to make sure that there isn't a network limit on the lease of a Static IP?
