Heloooo :D

So guys, this is my system:

  • CPU
    Intel Core Quad Q9400
  • Motherboard
    ASUS P5G41t-M LX3
  • RAM
    4Gb Corsair Memory
  • GPU
    Sapphire R9 270
  • Case
    CoolBox F32
  • Storage
    WD 160 GB
  • PSU
    1life ps:jet 700W
  • Display(s)
    Acer AL1916W
I'm in need of more storage ( OHH shiz don't you say??) and don't know if I should go for a 128GB SSD wich is about 60€ or a 1TB HDD for roughly the same price. The SSD would give me those ultra fast boots (my boot time is around 1:30 minutes  ). But the HDD would give me a lot more storage...

What is your sincere opinion on this? :D

I think an SSD gets the priority unless you are dying for more space. Aside from boot times, the whole experience is miles better with an ssd. Another worthy upgrade would be 4 more gb of ram, they really make a difference :)

I would go with the HDD. 128GB is NOT enough for total system storage.

If you're looking to accelerate a large amount of data the cheaper way is an SSD cache. If you get a 128 GB SSD and install the OS on it, that path is usually easier than having to move the OS off a larger HDD later when you want a SSD boot. If you pick the 1 TB HDD you can always add a cache later without the need of re installation.

Now for which one I would recommend I couldn't tell you without more information. Obviously if you are just web browsing and streaming then you don't need 1 TB. If you are looking to store a lot of newer big games then I would lean towards the HDD even if it is slower.

Do not forget it would be 128 GB SSD plus 160 GB HDD that I already own.

Hmm, considering what you said I might buy the HDD... even though it is slower it will suit me better :D thank you

No problem, if you ever feel like making the 1 TB HDD work faster in the future this is usually the solution I recommend post OS install.

What O/S are you using? XP? Vista? Win7 32? If you're not planning on upgrading anytime soon I would say stick with a hdd. A small ssd sounds nifty but you might not have a good enough system to run it well and going the hdd route is guaranteed to work.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

Hey Fatelinha,

It really depends on if you need more storage space now, or you'd prefer having the speed boost now and add the storage space later.
I would suggest having the SSD now, putting your OS on it, and get the HDD down the road when funds are available.
