Alllllrighhhhttyyy. I've always wanted to do a build log, and I figured, what better way to do it than with my first custom rig? Anyways, I don't seem to have pictures quite yet, but pretty soon I'll have some up. This build is in progress and will be upgraded quite a lot for a while. I really enjoy building and upgrading, so my whole setup, including keyboards, mice, parts, monitors, and everything should be upgraded in the near future. Now on with the post!

2-3 months ago I ordered parts for the rig. I got an i3 4150 paired with an H97M Anniversary and 8GB 1866MHz Kingston Fury Series ram along with an EVGA 500w PSU. I had a 160GB Blue drive laying around, and on top of that, I have a 500GB external Caviar Black drive that I'm using for other stuff such as school work. I plan on getting a 1TB Barracuda drive off eBay for $30 or new for $50. I had a Lian Li PC-601 laying around. Older model from like 2002. Pretty soon I plan to upgrade the 2.0 ports to 3.0 ports on there or getting another case such as the Shinobi. Pretty soon I'll be getting either a 660ti or a 960. Updates with pictures soon to come! Opinions on the build?

Last Christmas I got a Razer Deathadder. My monitor is an Acer P221w 1680x1050 and my keyboard is a cheap Dell L100.

Is it really necessary? I have a bunch on my MB and the front panel, but my flash drive and external HDD are from 2008 and I don't see any significant difference in performance anyway. And of course my mouse and MIDI-keyboard don't need this speed/bandwith/amperage...

Lian Li PC-601 looks like a solid case, so сonsidering the fact that your build is quite budget... Investing money on something like GPU, as you mention, might be a better choice.

And failing to act, for fear of the risk, is no different than a living death. No matter what world you’re in.

Yeah, the case may be old, but it is a really solid case. I'll keep the port switching mention from you in mind. Thanks for the feedback. I'll be posting pictures soon.
