Heaphone advice...?

Currently I am using the Logitech G35 Surround Sound headset as my primary, actually only, set of head phones / headset for playing games. I am getting ready to build a new computer and would like to take full advantage of the onboard sound that is available on my new mobo (MSI X99 Gaming 7, for those interested). I like the G35s, but they are a bit dated and I would like to hang them up for a while and only use them as back up or as my travel gaming headset.

So, with that being said, I am looking to steer away from traditional gaming headsets and move in to the realm of quality headphones... After watching several videos, to include the "Gaming headsets suck" series by Tek Syndicate, I am still somewhat lost and in need of a little direction. I have started my shopping process and these 3 headsets are the ones that I think will most benefit my budget and needs, but would like some input.

Audio Technica AUD ATHAD500X

Superlux HD668B

Samson SR850

i understand that the open form factor of the design is supposed to give you a better sense of immersion, but as far as the actual sound quality and characteristics such as frequencies and all that, I am lost. Of the three above, what would be a good starting point? I am leaning more towards the Samson headphones as I continue to do research and try to learn what I can about sound quality, freqs, what it takes to drive the heaphones, etc. Just looking for some advice on this matter. Thanks.

Currently all the headphones are listed on amazon under $100, which is where my budget is sitting right now.

Most of the good stuff in that price bracket is concentrated in the 75-100 range, although some people are plenty happy with cheaper.

I'll second the HD518 as an alternative to the AD500x.
