TDP rating

Go to solution Solved by DigitalHermit,

As long as the sockets are the same, the chipset supports the Pentium, and the bios supports the Pentium, then it should be fine...

I was talking to my mom about how im doing a little upgrade on my comp and she mention hers is running like sh*t

When I got to her house ,you could hear the Fan across the room

So I took a look and the heat-sink on CPU was loaded with dust, like packed in there...bad

I had some thremal grease so I removed the fan/Heat-sink and cleaned out the H/S looking like new

When I was removing the fan,i noticed that it was blowing air away from H/S,not onto it

That isn't normal right?

I replaced the H/S and fan(blowing onto the H/S) and it is running quiet

Something I looked at though was she has a Intel Celeron D @  3.46Ghz( single core)

I have an old comp sitting in closet with a Pentium D @ 2.8Ghz(Dual core)

I know the clock is less but is dual core, would it help to switch out?

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Pentium-D-820-vs-Intel-Celeron-D-360

also,I have looked all over and cant find the TDP specs for her MOBO

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00910113

Celeron is 65w

pentium is 95w

Want to make sure it will work

Her comp is a compaq

and the CPU I want to put in is out of a Dell

That shouldn't matter bios wise should it

Let sit for a minute, removed Heat Sink and old CPU

Installed new CPU and Thermal grease,Replaced heat sink

Powered up,Windows XP did its thing of updating, restarted and it is working great
