Go with a Corsair H105 if you want liquid cooling, or an NH-D15 if you don't mind the look of a heatsink. (Or, I'd actually consider going with a 4790k + Hyper 212 cooler altogether and is something I kind of wish I had done in my build).

You can also go with a cheaper motherboard -- Gigabyte Z97x SLI, cheaper Ram, and cheaper fans just to save some money.

Also go with an EVGA G2 750w psu instead. And it might be wise to go with an R9 290 right now, at least until the whole 970 not being able to fully utilize all 4gb of VRAM is worked out.

I'd also lose the optical drive unless you actually need it on a regular basis as windows can be installed from a flash drive.

Build looks solid... but I am gonna mess with you a bit.

For this build to make any sense, it requires you to run stock.  If you find you need more CPU speed down the road, then you upgrade the cooler.  Also, add whatever fans you want:

The H105 is a slightly better cooler than the H100i, if the price is similar.

I would ignore almost everything this guy said. No need to spend the money on the 4790k unless you plan on doing lots of photo and video editing. The H100i is a great cooler, especially for the price. Don't go cheap on your ram, stick with what you have and if anything get a little bit more; sometime you will wish you had 16. Although there is some weird optimization problems going on with the 970 right now, it will be a worthy investment. Lastly, don't lose the optical drive, it's cheap and comes in handy quite often. The only things I would agree with would maybe be the motherboard change and the PSU.

I'm not saying he needs a 4790k, however, you can either pay $330 for a 4690k+high end cooler and hit 4.2-4.5ghz or spend $330~ on a 4790k and start out at 4ghz and have an additional 4 threads just in case.

The H105 is an all around better cooler and the H100i has mounting issues with a lot of motherboards (while the h105 has mounting issues with some cases due to space issues -- the Enthoo Luxe, however, is not one of them).

8gb is still more than enough for gaming, and anything from Corsair, G Skill, Kingston, Adata, or Avexir is great and you will see no performance difference whatsoever. Not to mention "faster" ram often causes cpu overclock instability and you end up running that "faster" ram at 1600 mhz anyway.

I haven't used an ODD in 7 years, and most people have no use for an ODD other than installing windows.

I wanted a gaming pc after using the Asus ROG G750JM so i decided to create myself a build.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/JWL9834/saved/3RcmP6

I'm fairly new to PC building and I was wondering what people thought.

Remember, your build is fine.  A very solid build.  You can tighten it up a bit and save around $100... without losing any performance.

I was planning to do my own water-cooling loop BUT it costs a large amount of money which is why I went with the H100i. I am new to water-cooling just a heads up. I am planning to SLI eventually once I have more money to have dual 970`s. I do plan on overclocking once I learn how to properly overclock. On other forums people have been telling me to get a i7 if I plan on overclocking due to the hyperthreading. What do you guys think ? I`m trying to get the most for my money, and I would like for this Desktop build to be better than my laptop. I was planning to use this purely for gaming, and use my laptop for everything else.

Fans are crap on H100i, get 280L or 240M instead, they are around the same price

Don't go with Asus R9 290s as the DCU2 cooler is pretty poor and for the same upfront cost ($10 more after MIR) you can get an all around better Power Color PCS+ R9 290.

You won't need more than the i5 for gaming and mild-moderate workstation duty.  As far as liquid AIO coolers, they do their job quite well.  Corsair fans are loud, that is an easy fix:  These Sickleflow fans come in blue, red and greed LEDs too.

I definitely don`t want a loud computer that is for sure. On the H100i I can switch the fans out on that right?? I know that was probably a really dumb question

Haha well I have been saving this money up for a really long time, and that is why I want to make sure I am getting the most out of my money.

This form is quite amazing, very helpful.
