Yes, you have to open a browser every time. That's how you run the game. And no, you cant. The game will close as the server browser is built into the web page. 

It's easy to get use to, though, it's annoying to have something else in the way of your game.

You always have to use the browser. And if you actually learn to use it its pretty good.
