Good laptops in the $1000 +/- $200 range (Australia)

A mate of mine is looking at buying a new laptop for uni, has a budget of a bit over $1000 (lower is better obviously). He will want to do a bit of gaming on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I only have my phone connection atm and am running low on data. Oh and he's not very tech minded so has only suggested pretty awful laptops. Intel + Nvidia combos are also preferred over AMD.
