I am having troubles picking where to place my desk lightning as I prefer not to use the ceiling lighting all day. So I've been trying to figure out where the perfect place for a small desk lamp would be without it shining straight into the face. I think the reason I can't find a good place for the desk light is probably because I might not know the true purpose of a desk lamp.

Anyone have any output to where a lamp should be placed, or what type of lighting is best to use?

My desk is placed up against my wall, so I have my desk lamp under my desk shining onto my wall. It makes a nice backlighting (if that's what you'd call it?) behind my desk and illuminates my area nicely without being too light.

Ambient lighting maybe? Not sure, but I'm trying to do something like your lighting!
