Hi All

Sorry i've done alot of searching in regards to this and cannot seem to find a definitive answer or a clear defined shortlist. I'm looking for some nice large storage drives from my home data and media server running windows server 2012.

all in ill be looking for around 5-8TB of usable storage with a data redundancy. so possibly in total 10-16TB of drives when my data redundancy is built in.

Many Thanks in advance for any suggestions of drives

Probably the WD Red or the Seagate NAS drives. They are rated for 24/7 and in RAID configurations. Don't buy WD Blacks/Greens or Seagate Desktop/Barracuda, they aren't safe to run in RAID.

Western Digital Reds or black

Black is a waste of money for storage. Why do you keep recommending it everywhere?

@OP: WD Reds or Seagate NAS should be the best choice for your setup.

Hi there @amh0187!

Since you're looking for a server drives I would suggest WD Red as well.

They are designed for multi-drive RAID use and the vibrations and stress that comes with a RAID array, have low operating temperatures and also have RAID specific built-in features (like TLER – helps the drive recover faster in case of read/write error and the drive doesn’t drop off the RAID).

Here's a link if you want to take a look:

Hope this helps.

Cheers! :)
