So I'm someone who's eyes hurt and sometimes gets a headache when viewing bright screens for hours on end and I was wondering.. What's the best way to minimize this?

Do IPS panels contribute heavily to this, as opposed to TN? I hear about the brilliant colours of IPS and I feel like that's exactly what'll cause it for me... Kind of worried that I'll just have to return the monitors I ordered.. What do you guys think? Any advice?

Lower brightness, use flux? Flux does wonders on my eyes personally.

What is it? The description isn't really helpful on the website.

It changes the color temperature of your monitor, giving it a yellow-ish hue as if you're using a pair of Gunnars.

It's software-bound, so it doesn't actually edit settings on your monitor.

Ah I see.. Does it somewhat ruin the benefits of IPS (brilliant colours and viewing angles)?

It ruins the color aspect, yes.

Yes, it essentially 'dyes' your monitor an orange color at night, and it changes gradually depending on your local time of day for a consistently smooth transition. At first it seems ridiculous and horrible, but after a while you get used to it, and your eyes feel much better in the dark. Try it! It's completely free.

Ok thanks :).

Do you know if there's an inherent difference in IPS vs TN for eye strain? Without any additional software.

Personally I don't know, I haven't felt any different between using my VE198 (TN) and my i2367f (IPS), but that may just be me.

Just get flux.

And turn the night mode on during the day too. Have it perma on.

And next time you change your monitor make sure to get a flicker free IPS screen. Preferably a 21:9 and freesync. Thats the most comfortable thing you can get for your eyes and head.

Yes, bad viewing angles are known to be a problem to very sensitive users.

And still use flux with it.
