Hi I have been told a couple times that if you go a litte overkill on your psu wattage that it Will not affect anything and that it Will just cost more. I just wanted to double check that this is true. My build is: (Intel I5 4690k, gigabytes gtx 970, Asus maximus z97 vii hero, g.skill ripjaws x series 16 gb, corsair h100i, Samsung 850 evo 250gb, nzxt s340) and then this is the power supply I want it's the evga g2 750 watt/ http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=17-438-017

While what you said is true, all power supplies have an efficiency curve, such as this one (but they vary from psu to psu) :

load_efficiency_curve.jpg

By getting power supply that is a bit overkill, the efficiency won't be at it's peak, and you'll be paying slightly more in electricity

It won't damage components or anything like that though

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

The 970 has a minimum wattage requirement of 500 watts. having 750 watts means you just have some expandability for future upgrades. I.E. second GPU, newer GPU with higher requirements.

Yes the reason why I wanted to get this one is because if I ever did sli or upgrade in the future I wouldn't have to buy another psu... and also because it is only $10 more than a 650 watt one

Ignore graphics card quoted wattage requirements--they are highly inflated to cover their butts.
