Hey guys,i just built my new pc with an i5 4460,Asus DCU2 r9 290 (@ stock clocks i.E. 1000mhz on the core 1260 on the memory),8GB of ram.I'm having performance issues in BF4 (might be in other games too it's just that i know i should be getting better fps in BF4 because i get the same fps i used to with my 270x/fx8320 pc) where it drops under 60fps sometimes well into the 40s from 130ish fps.I checked with msi afterburner and while i was playing in windowed so i can see afterburner my GPU was stuck at around 970mhz on the core and my cpu usage was consistently at about 70%.Basically i was getting the same performance with my 270x and i don't think i should be getting low fps like this.I play on the high preset at 1080P with win 8.1 64bit and 14.12 omega drivers. The harddrive i installed in this PC is brand new so there will be no driver conflicts.I also did a unigine valley benchmark at the extremehd preset but the score seems to be pretty avarage for 290's (ill attach it).The temps are around 70C under full load and the GPU usage moves around alot,it goes from 30-90 percent and back down, but that could be normal.

Have you tried using mantle? The fact that you get a good score in valley is already a good sign, but BF4 is just a complete mess when it comes to optimization. The only way I can get consistent performance in this game with my R9 290s is by using mantle tbh. Definitely try other games as well.

ASUS is horrible for amd cards. All they did was take the NVidia coolers and put it on a AMD card with no adjustments..some of the heatpipes don't even touch...

Could you check the VRM temperatures?

ASUS r9 290 has a tendency for too h

Will try mantle and get back.

Alright, played 20 mins on pearl market (notorious for bad optimization) with mantle and my min fps was 61 but that only happened once, normally the min was at 70-80 ish.So i guess this card just runs BF4 badly on DX11,i mean peal market used to chug hard on my old PC.

Nothing really happened, they both go up and down but it didnt really spike that much or atleast it didnt seem like it.Anyway mantle seems to have fixed my issue.

Great to hear that. Even with an i5 4670k at 4.4GHz BF4 will stutter and chug if I don't use mantle. It's just a borked game that gets "saved" by mantle in this case. That said, mantle will push your VRAM usage quite high. I'd stay away from the resolution slider. Mine is set to 125% and I nearly max out my 4GB of VRAM per card.

I have 2 of them, at 1440p with my settings (4xMSAA, everything at ultra except for post processing on low, 125% resolution scale, mantle) I get an average of 85-ish fps across most maps with 64 players. Some maps just don't want to run well though, like when levolution in shanghai happens or in one of the new maps when the roof comes down and everything is filled with dust. Don't starte at an FPS counter all day, just dial in the settings that give you a smooth experience 90+% of the time and enjoy the game.

@Moldy Here's how my system looks when playing BF4 with mantle if you're interested. As I said, FPS-wise it depends on the map but it's very rare that I drop below 70. Also, that crossfire scaling with mantle, it's too good to be true.
