Adding another router?

Hey,

 

I was wondering if it is possible to add anther router to house. I purchased an Asus RT-N66U when i was at college. Now that i am home our house has a Modem/Router combo and i get a poor connection in my room (PS4, laptop, phone, tablet). I was wondering if there was a way to add my router to the network and have it in my room. Maybe just have it act as a access point and switch?

 

Is this possible.

Just buy a new access point w/better antennas...
