I am looking at buying a laptop but all of the laptops I have found so far have two finger scrolling. Is their anyway to disable this? Is their a way of re-enabling vertical scrolling like on Windows 7 laptops where you would just slide your finger along the side of the trackpad?

You can disable two-finger scrolling in the trackpad settings. I don't know if the one-finger-on-the-side scrolling is still there, I just use a mouse.
