Is threads important ?

Go to solution Solved by gilm0re3,

Should help you out a bit. Might also want to look at this:

intel i5 4690k -

# of Cores 4 # of Threads 4 Processor Base Frequency 3.5 GHz Max Turbo Frequency 3.9 GHz TDP 84 W

intel i7 4790k -

# of Cores 4 # of Threads 8 Processor Base Frequency 4 GHz Max Turbo Frequency 4.4 GHz TDP 88 W

does 8 (4core 8threads) threads make a difference in  performance or 4 (4core 4 threads)  threads is fine ?

someone can explain this ?? please .

If a program can effectively use more threads (some rendering programs, for example), then yes, there would be a difference. 90% of everyday software and games are not in that category though.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

the 4 extra threads of the i7 are from hyperthreading which helps with multitasking and high work loads, they sort of act as 4 more cores, though are not physically on the CPU.

In workloads that utilize the extra threads, yes there will be a performance increase. TechPowerUp tested Battlefield 3 or 4(can't remember) and the 4770 managed to put out more frames than the 4670K. In addition, in applications like content creation, the additional threads will make a huge difference. That being said, sometimes hyper-threading can cause a performance decrease when the application isn't written properly for it.

depends, if you use a lot of 3D rendering or even simple or complex movie transcoding/encoding processes, you definitely need more cores/threads , assume that the threads/cores as the amount or workers being assigned to a single task, more people working on the single task at the same time means that you can get the job done in a much less time compared to few workers struggling with it & getting the job done much later compared to more workers getting it done in less time more efficiently..

but those depends on situation, if you mean like regular browsing & gaming max about 4 core/threads is more than enough also for daily multitasking, todays AAA games use pretty much around 4 cores max & 8 gigs of memory to the fullest extend..beyond which it will not use those & those cores are pretty much stay as left over idling in most cases.. so you now know the scenario & you get to choose which is best for your usage, do do some research on what /which kinda daily usage you have before making a commitment

Details separate people.
