OC FX 4130

So I'm currently bottlenecking an R9 280 with an FX 4130 and was wondering if I should:

 

A. Buy cheap watercooling and OC to the max

 

B. Just upgrade to an FX 6300

 

 

The problem is I don't know if my motherboard will do OK. Its an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3.

I'd go with the 6300 and an air cooler.

 

And doing a quick google search, yes it can handle a 6300.

 

Spending 100+ dollars on a watercooling loop isn't the best idea when you can simplely upgrade the cpu and get an air cooler for maybe... 20-30 dollars more? at most.

 

Edit, Looking into it. Fuck trying to overclock heavy with that motherboard. I don't think it would do well. cpu + aircooler and a small overclock would be best

I already have the motherboard and CPU. I have the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2. Will I be able to OC to 4.1Ghz? The BIOS is updated to the latest version, BTW.

You should be able to. 

 

Stress test the Overclock to make sure its stable and make sure you check the temperature when stress testing.

I wouldn't even bother over clocking on that board. It only has a 4+1 vrm phase and doesn't have vrm heatsinks. Technically you are still able to oc and I wouldn't be surprised if you could overclock your cpu by a few hundred MHz.
