it showed up in my steam library, and I can pre-load it.  I never signed up for it or anything.  why do I have it? Does everybody have access to it? it wouldn't really be much of a "closed" beta if everyone had it

So I'm assuming you own L4D? or Bioshock Infinite?

 

PC Players: Starting January 16th, we’ll be holding a smaller closed technical test on PC. If you were invited to the Big Alpha on PC, you will have access to these closed technical tests as well. And if you already own Left 4 Dead or BioShock Infinite in your Steam library you can participate in the closed technical test, which is limited in scope and will not include Evacuation or have Hunter and Monster unlocks carry over to Evolve’s launch.

I didn't even notice but I have it too. Look forward to buying it on release.

I think you get it if you participated in the "big alpha" or one of the other test events.

I didn't participate in any test events or anything

both actually..  I guess that's why then.  Why those games I wonder?

 

edit:  same publisher/developer people as L4D2 and Bioshock.  2K and Turtle Rock Studios.  That must be why
