What are normal VRM temps

I posted earlier about high temp readings on idle I've been getting on my Sabertooth mark 2 motherboard using Asus AI suite. Its labled Vcore and is to the left of the CPU where the mosfets are located. My CPU will be at 30C but my vcore temp will read 60C at idle on a 4790k at stock with an h60 cooler. Is it normally this much higher than the CPU or could there be something else going on?

 

I know what normal CPU temp ranges should be but I cant find what normal ranges for VRM is. The case is a 450D. I added a top exhaust fan and it lowered the Vcore temp from around 63 to 60 at idle.

Ok, so its normal for it to be a lot higher than the CPU temp at idle? I assumed this was the case but its been been hard to confirm this. Even ASUS tech support seemed unsure what a normal temp reading for a mark 2(or any) mobo would be. I assumed it definitely was NOT normal because it was the only reading in AI suite that was in red(and was like 20 to 30C higher than all others.

 

It makes some sense because airflow to that location is blocked by the the Ram and the h60 cooler, so it would be a logical place for a pocket of heat to develop.

My rampage v extreme goes upto 50 degrees under load, and if u have a ROG motherboard, the caps are rated for 10K hours @ 105 degrees

Ok, so its normal for it to be a lot higher than the CPU temp at idle?

yes it is.

some VRM's are rated as much as 120c...most cheaper boards will trottle at around 85c...idealy you want the vrm's to be under 80c at all time.

Thanks. That's good news I guess. I am a little annoyed as the temps I'm reading about are still lower than mine, which are 60c at idle in a case designed for super high airflow. I'll see what it gets at load when I fire up bf4, which should be a pretty good stress test.

What motherboard u got? Considering that mine is the current asus flagship, it was designed for low VRM temps and overclocking in mind with beefy heatsinks and pipes, and their DirectCU cooling

It's an asus sabertooth mark 2. I think the asus tech support guy said the vrm was rated to 125c (maybe he said 105C),although he didn't know what a normal temp range is.

75c to 85c would be normal temps under load with a slight oc.

I've been playing BF4 and so far its hung around 61C, the CPU hasn't gotten above 55C. Amazingly my gtx 970 hasn't gotten above the mid 40s even while giving me 120 FPS on 1080p ultra with 4xmsaa, I have to admit im impressed.

 

I think this 450D case really does provide good airflow. My CPU and GPU temps drop quickly when not under load. The VRM temp stays steady though and doesnt change much, im guessing that's normal.

Well their TUF series are designed for some tuf life

Normal VRM is around 105 degrees

I have to correct my GPU temps, I was going off AI Suites PCIe1 temp reading, which isn't your actual GPU temp apparently. Using Geforce experience I see my 970 temps got up to mid 70s, but this is with the reference blower style cooler on auto settings so the less than exceptional temps are to be expected. If I lock my frame rate in BF4 to my monitor refresh rate and play with my fan curve I could lower them some more I suppose.

I have hero vii and my vrm temps are around 55-65°C under load with 4790k oced at 4.7ghz, you are fine, as long as its under 80°C it dont have to bother you
