New PC Build Getting low FPS.

Go to solution Solved by Buckah,

Hi guys i got completely fed up last night, was so pissed off with the machine i gave up and went to bed (in the uk here :) ), came back from work there booted computer up decided to run another couple benchmarks, and they scored really high :S i done the lower category to start which i scored 27k in, so i thought ill check the one last night which i only scored 4k in and i got 10k... so went onto alien isolation and fps is over 200, i have no idea what ive done but it seems to have worked!

im not too sure which of the answers above worked because i tried to game after every attempt, and none worked then, maybe the computer had a brain freeze? who knows!?

thanks guys for all your help and support its really appreciated!

Hi, New to this so hope this is in the correct section.

Recently just built my computer (within the last week) and i've just started playing alien isolation. i wanted to check my FPS so installed FRAPS, and its averaging about 50, which i thought was pretty low as friends with similar systems are running at 125+fps.

It has

A GALAX EXOC GTX 970

4790k

8GB hyper X 1600mhz RAM

MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Motherboard

Samsung EVO 250gb SSD

Windows 7

sunflower 550W PSU

All up to date drivers from the web, I've turned adaptive power control off in the nvida control panel.

game settings are set to ultra

Game res is 1680X1050 due to monitor constraints

shadow map resolution is 2048

Friend has 770gtx and a 4690K which is overclocked to 4.2GHZ, which is only 200MHZ more than i'm running so couldn't possibly be making a difference of 75fps?

im assuming something is bottlenecking somewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

if you guys need anymore information plz let me know!

virus scanned and nothing! :(

Plugged into the gpu :)

settings are compared to friends, only difference is i'm running a lower res which should give me better performance?

As i said, try checking your gpu and cpu temperatures just in case. Maybe thermal throttling is the reason.

"Nope, said the engineer"

I've seen glitches with that resolution, but I'm not sure if that's your problem.  What games are you running?

cpu temps is around 33degrees usage up to 85% max, gpu usage is 51% and max temp is 56degress ? 60hz monitor and vsync is off

Fraps capped @ 50 fps?

Optimize the game with geforce experience ( dissable DSR because that may affect it alot if its on)

Chech nvidia control panel on vsync settings and other

used gforce experience, it doesnt optimise isolation but does for evil within and still crappy fps

fraps fps not locked

i have v sync off in nvidia control panel,

these are the only two games ive played atm a bit of wow and fps wasnt great either

Ok do this.Get a benchmark such as ungine valley or /the other one which i forgot/ and get msi afterburner because it has graphs you can scroll back.

Set it to your native resoliution, set it all on most of the stuff on high/ultra/max to stress the gpu.

Run it.

If you see no lag but later its starts to lag alt+tab to msi afterburner and chech the temp and core speed graphs for TT(thermal trotle) and high temps above 95+

If you see lag but no high temps or TT chech the gpu power pins, maybe smthin is wrong with thoose but very unlikely.

If everythin is OK but still lag open up control panel and power settings and disable power saving and forgot how but i think you can set the PCIE speeds somewhere so if im not imaginating set them to x16.

If the problem is there its or software or faulty card or IDK
