So I'm mainly a competitive team fortress 2 player but recently I got a nice 7870 and 3570K for some other games to play in my free time. Playing far cry 3 now but something I noticed is that I absolutely can run far cry 3 on maximum settings and get over 100fps but I notice a lot more input lag like it's not as smooth. Even though the game looks a lot nicer, I prefer to play on low settings then. I know that motion blur causes something that feels like latency and I assume that it's "post fx" so I put that as low. I wonder if this is a common thing to create latency at higher settings or usually does it feel the same? Or maybe nobody else can feel this latency but only I can because I come from a more competitive environment rather than casual?

It sounds like you have Vsync on, But what lag are you talking about? Mouse, keyboard, screen?

I have what maybe a similar experience. I am gaming on old 9600gt at a resolution of 1440x900. When playing Mass Effect 2 maxed out in some areas I can maintain 60fps.

Now theoretically I should not be able to detect a higher framerate because my monitor's refresh rate is 60Hz, so I keep vsync on. However when I turn down the resolution even more I could swear that things feel smoother and more instantaneous (no input lag). But vsync is still on and fraps still shows 60fps.

I actually don't have vsync on. And I know what vsync input lag is like. But this isn't as bad, it's smaller but I can definitely still feel it and it affects my personal experience in a negative way. I'm not complaining, I'm actually completely happy to play on low settings it looks really good anyway but I was wondering if this is a common thing

I personally had a huge input lag by enabling AA and AF and Ambient Occlusion. Try disabling those 3 and you will be fine.
