Depends what model will you get. If you get the 32ohm ones, you can run them with a loaf of bread, but if you get the 250/600 ohm ones, they'll need an amp. And I own the 250 ohm pros and they sound great, quite a flat sound with a bit of boost on both ends.

The 32 ohm one is more expensive though... is there any cheap amps that could get to run it well? But will they run on my amp I have now?

But on the website, it says 16-150 Ohms recommended... http://www.fiio.net/en/products/27 Will it still work with the 250 ohm 990's?

i would actually recommend picking a different DAC I just picked up the E10 and the 990's (250 ohm) so this EXACT setup I LOVE both they are absolutly fantastic and can not recommend anything more

That being said the amp is a bit underpowered ... I like it and the sound is fantastic but all the way out they are still about 15% too quiet at the top end

Dont get me wrong for normal listening they are just fine but when you REALLY want to rock out they get no where near painful levels any my tolerances are pretty normal volume wise

Love the headphones I would just get a different amp

I actually came on here today to put that question out there so if anyone can recommend a good dac/amp for 250 ohm headphones let me know

I think I'll just go with the E10K.

Isn't that what you recommend I get?

Yes, I was disagreeing with the person above who claimed that the E10 didn't get loud enough because apparently they like to listen at unsafe levels.

My first recommendation remains that you should buy and try the 990 first and then decide on an amp at that point.

Oh ok, I was confused because you quoted me.

And that is exactly what I am doing.  :D

Oh and I did order the 990's.
