HDD now, SSD later?

Go to solution Solved by Speedbird,

I can't use the pata drive with modern mobos right?

You could buy a PCI PATA card.

I want to get a Hard Drive Disk now and an SSD later simply because of budget constraints. I'm getting an r9 290, and would certainly want that over the SSD at the moment. I have windows 8.1 on my laptop hard drive right now and the boot speed is very exceptable for me. I will definitely get an ssd later. Is this a good idea? I honestly think its fine.

How about an SSD now and an HDD later? Saves you the trouble of reinstalling Windows.

hdd now ssd later sounds like a good plan and @Speedbird it is not hard to clone windows to another drive

Hard drives have 4096KB sectors, SSDs don't have sectors. There will be problems, I guarantee it.

How would I do that? Most ssds I've seen that are around 50$ (that I can afford) are only 120gb, so I don't know if I can do that. My step dad has an old 500gb WD blue, but its pata not sata so I couldnt use it anyway

Just install Windows and your programs on it and use cloud storage for files.

$6 plus the cost of an ssd and you don't have to migrate windows

edit: that was just the first amazon result for 'sata to pata.' I'm sure there are more
