Water Cooling Help

Go to solution Solved by Ghost,

Going through your list one by one:

  • Good choice of pump. It should be noted though that a D5 pump is a D5 pump, they are the same no matter which brand you choose. I see a lot of people choosing swiftech pumps because they have heard of it before. Some D5 pumps have different features such as a tacho (rpm) wire, etc. A thing to look out for is if a pump top is included because they can increase performance and you usually have to buy them separately.
  • A res is a res, its just a container for water so you should choose what you prefer aesthetically. A good thing to use is a pump and res combo because they improve the pump's performance as a custom pump top would do (because that is what they are) and they also save money on the cost of a separate pump top and reservoir.
  • With waterblocks pick what you think looks best. Performance is usually within "margin-of-error".
  • (same as above)
  • I usually recommend going with the cheapest rad with the dimensions you want. Most rads perform very similarly to each other. Also if you can throw in another radiator. What you have is enough but the more rads you have the quieter you can run your fans. And in the long term its a worth while investment.
  • If you are picking this coolant because it is "non-conductive" then don't. I can assure you that if it leaks onto your components while they are powered on it will short them out either way.

All the components you picked as fine and would work.

Apologies for any typos. I'm in a rush so haven't proof-read the post.

Ok so I could really use some help with water cooling. I know how to assemble the loop and everything, but I'm not really sure what manufactures are the better ones. So if the forum here could help me pick out some parts that would be awesome! Ok so I'm only looking to cool my cpu/gpu. The gpu is a evga 670 ftw sc 4gb and the gpu will be a 4770k. The theme will be black and red. The budget is around $400 ( I would be willing to raise it to $500 if it would improve the cooling greatly)for the water part. I believe I would need a 360x 60 rad to cool both those. Any help or guidance you could give me on what parts to get would be awesome. Thanks.

Make a list of parts and we can tell you what's a good/bad choice. Its better than us blindly buying a list we give you.

Most parts are good. There are only a few things to watch out for.

Awesome job as usual ! Thanks a bunch! Also if you get the chance later once your done with whatever, what size res? or does it matter?

All that matters is that there is that the level of water in the reservoir is above the pump inlet. So no.

Adding more water (by using a bigger reservoir) just means the water will take longer to heat up under load, because, well, there is more of it.

EDIT: It would also mean the water takes longer to cool down after its heated up.

Choose what looks best because performance wise it really doesn't matter. Its best to draw out your loop to be able to decide on parts.

To do this simply grab a 2D side on snap of your case. (Just type your case name into google images and scroll down a bit till you find one, it should be there.) Then go to a photo editing program and simply put rectangles where you would like to place your radiators, blocks, reservoirs, pumps and tubing. For blocks use blue, for radiators use red and anything else use grey and for tubing use orange/brown lines with an arrow to point out the intended flow direction of your loop. There is no need to put fans in. This is an example of this from my personal loop: http://i.imgur.com/MynbfCp.jpg

Awesome thanks for the advice! Also what case is that switch 810? Only wondering because I haven't really decided on a case and I've seen the switch and it looks kinda cheap. Just wondering if you have one and like it. Anyway thank you so much for all the help!

Yup its the switch 810. It does feel a bit cheap but its the next best thing to the premium metal cases imo. Also the NZXT customer service is incredible, they have already sent me what must be over £30 of RMA parts without question with first class postage. So if you want a case and can't afford the more expensive ones then go for the switch. The only thing I regret now is picking the white colour, it is much harder to work with then black.

Ok yah I think I will go with the switch because the cost is one of the big turnoffs to cases like the 800d or tj07. Do you know of any metal cases that have the rad options of the switch? Also thanks a ton for the help.

Nope sorry. Its one of the reasons I went with the switch.
