BSOD On First Boot

Go to solution Solved by JohnnyGrey,

Glad it's not some hardware problem :) Yeah, Windows requires special "AHCI drivers" to be installed if AHCI mode is used, and they get installed automatically when installing Windows if that mode is already selected. There's a couple benefits of using AHCI mode, but it won't make or break a system. There's ways to get the driver installed on an existing installation.

If you ever do decide to do a reformat, I would change it to AHCI before starting the new installation. Two benefits: Hot-plugging and Native Command Queuing. First allows sata devices to be plugged and unplugged while system is running. Second is a slight performance boost.

Hi all,

Today I finished rebuilding my rig. I took my old cpu and hard drive and installed them in my new system. Upon first boot, I was presented with a BSOD. The code was STOP:0x0000007B

Really frustrating as all I want to do is play around on my new system

Do any of you have a fix for me?

Thanks

-ArrogantAdam

I have changed the setting in the bios, same error is occuring. I currently am running a gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 motherboard with an FX-6100 CPU. The CPU is going to be upgraded to an 8350

Did you change motherboard when you upgraded, and did you reinstall windows? or did you just try to run with the previous install?

Because sometimes when you put a hard drive with a version of windows from another system and slap it into a system with a new motherboard the drivers from the old version will conflict with the new motherboard and cause that bsod.

Do your drives show up in the BIOS? What happens when you try and run the system without them plugged in? (Obviously you won't get very far, but I'm curious if it'll still BSOD). As long as the AHCI/IDE setting is set to the same as it was on the old system, that shouldn't be causing it. Make sure it's set to the same setting as it was. If it was set to IDE mode on the previous system, and changed to AHCI on the new system, Windows won't boot and it will likely BSOD. There's ways to solve this, but I'd always reformat when changing that much hardware (That's just me, though)

The drive is showing up in BIOS. There is no BSOD when the drive isn't connected. Should I change the BIOS settings to IDE?

Well that code means Inaccessible Boot Device. So either you do have drivers conflicting, or your bios settings are wrong I would recommend a clean install either way. Its safer and will prevent problems in the future.
