I am planning on buying a computer, and I'm wondering.. What is the difference between Intel and AMD. I am planning on getting AMD 8350FX 4.0ghz and 8 core. However, I looked and I liked Intel i7-4790K 4.0ghz and 4 core. It gives better "everything" pretty much.

So my question is, which one should I choose? If I pick the Intel, I'd be losing 4 cores. if I pick AMD. I gain 4 cores, but lose performance. But I don't want to be laggy or have programs up and running and have my PC work hard.

What I plan on doing with this build is mainly game. Archeage, battlefield 4, cs:go, etc etc. Perhaps stream if I feel like it.

The GPU i'm going to get is the GTX 970.

The Intel CPU will run circles around the FX

no chance for the FX to excel

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Definitely go for intel.

Go for an i5 and save some money if all you're going to be doing is gaming, unless doing very heavy multitasking, video editing/rendering, photo editing/rendering, you won't really benefit from the i7, I've got the i5 4690K and its pretty great.

Please note that AMD has more slower cores, whereas intel has fewer faster cores.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

the 4790K will win in basically every scenario ;)

although it's a waste of money for gaming. Unless you have 100 dollars to yolo with, the i5 will suit you just fine :)

I see, I suppose I'll go for intel. I always hated the fact Intel had only 4 cores, and expensive ones for more. But I just like seeing how Intel dominates over AMD over performance. Now, before I pick the CPU. Is there any better for the same price as the i7? or lower. I will post my build in a bit to see if I can get more help on it.

the cheaper option will be the i5 and that cpu equally rapes the FX

I know, I known the fact that i5 are better for gaming rather than i7. Though, I'd love to just get my hands on an i7 just to have the highest xD, I dont mind paying the 100 more. Now, when the time comes though, i might drop it to the i5.

Don't compare cores, compare concurrent execution units. Both the i7 and FX 8350 have 8.

For most titles, gpu dictates gaming performance. Any i5, i7, or FX-8xxx will do.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
