Hello all,

I am a beginner in the world of PC building, and recently (like 2 days ago) I built a gaming computer. It's specs are:

CPU: Intel i5-4690K @ Factory settings (3.5GHz)

CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 Liquid Cooler

Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming

RAM: 8 GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 240 Pin DDR3

SSD: Kingston HyperX 120GB

HDD: Seagate 1000GB

PSU: Rosewill HIVE 750 Watt Power Supply Unit

GPU: No GPU yet, I initially booted up system with just onboard graphics memory, haven't bought GPU yet.

Monitor: Asus VG248QE

Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper Full Tower

I built this PC overnight and plugged it all into my monitor. The loading screen was just coming up, about to go to the BIOS and BOOM the whole system shuts off. Completely unresponsive. I thought that maybe all this power tripped the breaker in the basement, but no. The whole system just went out. I started wondering what could've been the problem? RAM voltage? CPU temp? Faulty PSU? The system was like this for a good hour, then randomly came back up again. I took advantage of this awakening and checked the CPU temp, it was fine, at 30 degrees centigrade. RAM voltage was fine, at 1.65 Volts. I booted up the computer, the OS was Windows 7 Ultimate edition, via a usb stick. This was a painless process, then when I got back to the desktop screen BOOM the power had died again. This was starting to get annoying, nothing was going, not even the PSU's fan was rotating. So I stripped the whole PC and rebuilt it and turned it back on, and it turned on for 0.25 seconds, then went out again. I let it sit for 30 minutes and it did the same thing, turned on for a fraction of a second then died again.

What could be the problem here? The board seems fine to me. The BIOS says nothing about a spike in temperature, on any components. I am thinking that it's the PSU that's acting up, but I am not sure. All cables are attached to the motherboard, this consists of the 24 pin power cable, the 6 or 8 pin power cable, the assorted SATA's, the Power Switch cable, assorted LED's, Fans, Audio's and USB's. What is the problem here?

Regards,

PL

You may need to update the BIOS, since you're using a 4690K in a Z87 board. (Devil's Canyon Refresh CPUs require the Z87 mobo's BIOS' to be updated to work properly/be supported.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

why is the memory running at 1.65v?

try a cmos reset.

if the cpu is seated properly and there are no bent pins ........

try removing and replacing the pump on the processor. It needs to sit flush.

do you have the cpu plug on the pump hooked to the cpu header?

I haven't played with the RAM voltage settings at all, so I believed that the defaults were at 1.65.

I have tried CMOS reset, no success.

The CPU is seated properly, it went all the way to the desktop screen itself without crashing, once.

I have removed it before and just let the CPU sit there, nothing.

And no, the CPU plug is hooked up to SYSFAN.
