Ext hdd issue

I have a 1tb to shiva ext hdd and when I hook it up to my computer it reads as a drive h instead of ext hdd like it used to and when I try to access it it tells me wrong parameter or H:\ is not acceptable Data error (cyclic redundancy check). How can I fix this so my computer will read it correctly and let me access all my files on it?
