Corsair RM650 rubber cables?

79wjd

Does anyone know if the RM650 uses rubber insulation in the cables, or is it some kind of plastic?

Probably some sort of rubber. What's the actual question that you want to ask? Doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

Mineral oil and rubber is a no go, so if it uses rubber insulation then I'm going to have to replace my psu (or get replacement cables -- but the former will be cheaper -- well, possibly cheaper...it depends what route I decide to take).

Or possibly swap my EVGA G2 750w in instead since I'm pretty sure that one definitely doesn't use rubber insulation (although, I don't exactly remember about that one either).

That's quite a chemical question. And i should know the answer since I'm a chemist, but i don't. :P

Have you tried just googling your question? :D Maybe you could even write corsair about this.

At least I'm bumping your thread if i know nothing, sorry. :D

Well, I already know that rubber in general isn't really something you want to be putting in mineral oil; but I guess there is a chance that Corsair uses a very minoot (minute*, I know, but I disagree with the spelling) amount of rubber or some type of "rubber" thats not reactive to mineral oil I guess....

most, if not all, use a plastic insul-wire that will eventually degrade in mineral oil.

as the specification when using the insulation wasn't being submerged in petroleum

products. mainly heat, high humidity and fine particle dust. eventually what would

happen is the insulation will crack and possibly fall apart. not a good scenario

to look forward to.

to really do it right, you'd get a custom wire set built for the need if going to be

permanent.

Any idea as to how long that eventual degradation would be as going with full custom cables for either my G2 or RM650 will more than likely push me out of my budget.

dunna know, i think luke said his lasted some years, but when broken down the

harnesses were brittle and cracking. so as said, if using it as a permanent PC,

look to making sure the parts are tasked for mineral oil usage or risk damage.

Most wires used in computers these days use PVC plastic for the coating. I hope that helps.

PVC wires are usually junk, hence being banned from use in anything that is regulated (aircraft, spacecraft, ships, etc) or in tough environments. The reason they are prolific in computer usage is because its so cheap to fabricate and sell. What you need to resist mineral oil is aircraft/spacecraft/marine-grade wires that specifically are designed to withstand all sorts of nastier stuff than mineral oil (Skydrol, Jet-A, Ethylene Glycol, etc).

I would recommend PTFE or FEP with Polyiamde tape...However, this just makes the wires last much longer when immersed in oil but not indefinitely.

Also GO ILLINI! (Aerospace Engineering '10)

So it sounds like I'll need a replacement cable set regardless of which psu I use (for either my rm650 or evga g2).

Any idea on a rough estimate for a cable set for either?

My advice is to buy the wire and then give them to whoever is building the set. That way you only get charged for labor.

I believe we have knocked it down to 60 with the new business model.

Also our extensions are made for each system, in custom colors, and have a lifetime warranty.
