This is my first spin with a Intel build. Having a hard time finding the chipset drivers for a Rampage II extreme ASUS board. Are these drivers necessary like with their AMD counterparts? I can find the drivers under the Windows 7 selection but when I try to search for them in 8.1 (using the technical preview) I cannot find any.

afaik Windows 8.1/10 comes with many of these chipset drivers out of the box. You can use the Win7 drivers though if you want to be fully sure, it won't update the drivers that it doesn't need to.

You can download all the drivers for the motherboard here: http://www.asus.com/ROG_ROG/RAMPAGE_II_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/

OP already said that he looked there. If you try selecting Windows 8.1 in the drop down menu on that page, notice how there's pretty much nothing. Whereas you select Windows 7 and there's tons of downloads

I was leaning towards this but I wasnt sure. Getting ready to start stress testing to see what I can clock this old machine to. Cant figure out why my ram is sitting at 550mhz though... I gotta tinker a bit more.

Oh my bad. The motherboard is too old and I guess they don't update all drivers...
