No signal Help

Go to solution Solved by -rascal-,

So would I use both of the PCI-E ports with 2 x 8-pin cables and plug 1 x 6 pin on each cable into the graphics card and I should use the first DVI port on the card. I checked and my on board graphics are disabled in bios. It seems like my bios is the most current for my board, but it was last updated 2012-09-28. I am planning on trying again tomorrow trying all the tips you gave me so thanks.

Yes, use both separate PCI-E cables to power the graphics card.

The power supply should have no issues powering even two R9-280's, but got the sake of troubleshooting and trying to get your PC up and running first, use both connectors for now.

Since it is an OEM board, I doubt there will be any newer BIOS update available. Additionally, 6-series and 7-series boards are now discontinued as the new processors use a different socket and chipset (8-series and 9-series).

Your system should be "new" enough to accept a R9-280X.

ok, I replaced my Gpu and when I turn on my computer it seems to be fine. The blades on the card spin and my other fans do the same. But no signal was showing on my monitor so I tried the other Dvi port then tried the hdmi port and still no signal. I looked at my bios and it seems to be up to date.  I uninstalled the drivers for my last card before I removed it.  Could it be that I only have 1 x 8 pin plugged into my power supply and plugged the other 2 x 6-pin end into the Gpu?

It said that it takes  on  6-Pin / 8-Pin on newegg. The card came with 2 x molex to 6 pins to use for the card, but I used 1 x 8-pin that turns into 2 x 6-pins from my powersupply and plugged them into the card. Thanks for the help

What CPU do you have? If it has integrated graphics, try using the mobo ports and see if the video works. If it does, I can think of 2 reasons:

  1. The Bios is setting onboard graphics as the output display. Gotta change that option
  2. Your card or your card's port is broken.

that's the Prob, because it's 2x6pin to 8pin not the other way around, so you plug the two 6pins to the psu, than you plug the 8pin to the Graphics card or what ever, so just use :

-two 6pin to 6pin

-a 6pin and an 8pin(6+2pin)

-use the molex adapters

The Dual-X R9-280 that the OP has uses two PCI-E 6-pin connectors.

This Rosewill power supply is fully modular and supplies four PCI-E 6+2-pin connections over two 8-pin connections on the PSU.

@CM7,

I would first do the following -- for troubleshooting sake

  1. Use separate connections from the power supply -- use both of the 8-pin connections on the power supply end. Make sure they are connected properly (make note of the locking tabs on them).
  2. Make sure both PCI-E 6-pin connections are properly connected (make note of the locking tabs on them)
  3. Make sure the graphics card is fully seated into the PCI-E X16 slot.
  4. Connect the monitor cable to the back of the card, NOT the motherboard.

It would be nice if you can take a few more pictures around the graphics card, i.e.

  • Different angle showing the PCI-E X16 slot,
  • Back of the graphics card where the expansion slots are,
  • PCI-E 6-pin cable connections on the graphics card
  • 8-pin cables on the power supply end,
  • etc

For the time being, try the above steps and report back.

I'm hoping the cause isn't due to motherboard incompatibility...(may require a BIOS update, if available).

You don't plug the 6-pin ends into the PSU.

The graphics card doesn't use 8-pins.

Look at the link he provided for his power supply and graphics card. Look at the pictures of his PSU and graphics card; zoom in on them.

Thanks for all the help I double checked everything and made sure that it was seated properly and it finally worked! This was my first upgrade and it really helped a lot. :D

Happy to hear it is all working for you  .

If you are willing to try, you could see if using one 8-pin --> two PCI-E 6+2 works again. It just eliminates the need for an extra cable snake :P .
